Apple is stepping into the smart home market with a Face ID-enabled doorbell, which is expected to launch by late 2025. The device aims to compete with popular products like Amazon Ring and Google Nest but will focus on enhanced privacy and integration with Apple’s ecosystem.
The smart doorbell will use Face ID to recognize users and automatically unlock doors. Apple is developing a special chip called Proxima, which will process Face ID data locally on the device to ensure privacy. Users can also store their footage securely on iCloud, which will likely boost Apple’s subscription services.
While Apple hasn’t confirmed whether it will pair the doorbell with its own smart lock system, it may work with third-party locks that are HomeKit-compatible. The device is expected to support the Thread smart home standard, making it a seamless part of Apple’s growing smart home ecosystem.
In addition to the doorbell, Apple is rumored to be working on a smart home hub with a 6-inch touchscreen. This hub could offer features like smart home controls, FaceTime, and Apple Intelligence. Updates to the Apple TV and HomePod Mini are also on the way, signaling Apple’s serious entry into the smart home space.
Apple’s innovative approach could make its smart home devices a strong competitor, especially for users who value privacy and ecosystem integration.
