Alaska Airlines adopts Tap to Pay on iPhone for in-flight purchases

Tap to Pay on iPhone, which turns any iPhone into a contactless payment terminal, is now available on Alaska Airlines flights. Flight attendants will use Tap to Pay on iPhone to accept contactless payments for in-flight purchases, according to the airline.

According to a press release, passengers will be able to pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, contactless cards, or any other contactless payment method. The initiative builds on the airline’s existing use of iPhones for tasks such as seat assignment and communication.

Apple first announced Tap to Pay on iPhone in February 2022 as a way to turn iPhones into contactless payment terminals. Since then, the feature has slowly spread to more countries around the world. Multiple payment platforms, including Square and Stripe, have also integrated the feature.

In this case, Alaska Airlines is collaborating with Stripe to implement Tap to Pay on iPhone.According to the company, it is the “first airline to offer Tap to Pay on iPhone.”

Tap to Pay is now available on select Alaska Airlines flights via iPhone. According to the company, it will go live across its entire fleet within the next “few months.”It can be used for in-flight meals, snacks, and drinks.
