Apple delivered the first beta of iOS 17.1 to developers on Wednesday, as the firm promised fresh improvements later this year. We’ve already covered the majority of what’s new in the iOS 17.1 beta, but there’s one more noteworthy change. Apple is bringing the torch indicator found on Dynamic Island to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15.
If you’re wondering what this torch indicator is, it’s a feature of Apple’s new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Only these versions, for some reason, have an indicator on the Dynamic Island that indicates when the torch is turned on. This comes in handy if you forget to switch off the torch after using it or if you accidentally click the torch button.
There didn’t appear to be any technical reason for Apple to keep this indicator restricted to the new 15 Pro devices, and we now know that this is the case. With iOS 17.1 beta 1, any iPhone model equipped with Dynamic Island will display the torch indicator as necessary.
This implies that the feature will now be available on the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15, and iPhone 15 Plus. Previous iPhone models, which lack Dynamic Island, will have no indicator other than the button on the Lock Screen.
