Apple intends to deliver lower-cost AirPods later this year, according to Jeff Pu, an analyst who studies Apple’s supply chain.
Pu stated today in a research note with investment company Haitong International Securities that a Foxconn subsidiary will be one of the providers of the lower-cost AirPods. According to Pu, Foxconn plans to increase AirPods production in an Indian factory in the fourth quarter of 2024.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to launch two fourth-generation AirPods models in September or October, including entry-level and mid-tier varieties. He stated that both models would get a new design with a better fit, more outstanding sound quality, and an updated charging case with a USB-C port.
The mid-tier model also includes active noise reduction and a speaker for Find-My-Location tracking. It is unknown whether the lower-priced AirPods and the entry-level fourth-generation AirPods are the same device, but it is likely.
Pu also anticipates the improved AirPods Max being available in the fourth quarter of 2024. Gurman stated that the over-ear headphones’ primary additional feature will be a USB-C charging connector; however, new color options are also possible.
