Apple is set to end its use of LCD screens in iPhones with the next-generation iPhone SE.
According to recent reports, the upcoming iPhone SE will feature an OLED display, marking a significant shift from the LCD panels used in previous models.
This move will align the iPhone SE with Apple’s mainline iPhones, which have all used OLED screens since the iPhone X in 2017.
Sources indicate that Apple has begun ordering OLED panels from BOE in China and LG Display in South Korea.
This transition will also affect Japanese suppliers Japan Display and Sharp, who previously provided LCD screens but do not produce OLED panels.
The new iPhone SE is expected to debut in early 2025. It is rumored to adopt a design similar to the iPhone 14, featuring a 6.06-inch screen, Face ID, an Action button, and possibly an A18 processor.
This change signifies the end of an era for LCD screens in Apple’s lineup, highlighting a broader shift in display technology across the industry.
