According to internal documents obtained by The New York Times, OpenAI plans to gradually increase the cost of its ChatGPT Plus subscription over the next five years.
Currently priced at $20 per month, the subscription provides access to premium features, including advanced models and DALL-E image generation. However, this will soon change.
By the end of 2024, the subscription cost is expected to rise to $22 per month, and by 2029, it may reach $44 per month. OpenAI has approximately 10 million ChatGPT Plus subscribers today.
This price increase is part of OpenAI’s broader plan to expand revenue, as they expect to bring in $3.7 billion this year but still plan to lose $5 billion.
The company aims to raise $7 billion in funding and has a current valuation of $150 billion. Despite these hikes, OpenAI continues to add new features, like integration with Apple Siri in iOS 18.2, making it more accessible to a wider audience.
For those who value the advanced capabilities of ChatGPT, these increases may be worth it.
However, the rising price could also push some users towards other AI services like Google and Microsoft. Stay tuned for more updates from OpenAI about its evolving subscription plans.
