WhatsApp Web Client’s Dark Theme To Get Subtle Improvements

Meta is working on several minor improvements to WhatsApp, which will also be available on the web version of WhatsApp. It will get a new sidebar similar to the one found in the Windows version of the app, and WABetaInfo has discovered that WhatsApp Web’s dark theme may soon match that of the Android app.

When the dark theme is enabled, WhatsApp Web will have a slightly darker background color, as shown in the screenshot above. The change is subtle but will result in a consistent look across all platforms, which is currently not the case, at least for WhatsApp Web.

The image below depicts how the new color differs from the original. Unfortunately, WhatsApp does not appear to be interested in giving users the option of having a completely black background. The wallpaper dimming option in WhatsApp’s Settings » Chats » Wallpaper menu can be used to get a black background inside chats, but the colour cannot be changed in other sections of the app.

As with any new feature or change to WhatsApp, there’s no telling when the web version’s updated dark theme will be available to users, but we’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
