X May Charge New Users a ‘Small Fee’ to Post, Like and Reply

Elon Musk has said that social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, will soon start charging new users “a tiny fee” for uploading material and for liking, commenting, and saving tweets.

Updates to the website’s text strings have referred to a tiny annual fee that new members must pay to use the social network, according to X Daily News, a feed that updates X news.

The charge was trialed in the Philippines and New Zealand earlier, and according to Musk, it only applies to new users of Twitter. To participate in the network, a new user must either pay the registration cost or wait three months.

Although Musk stated that “writing actions” will be free beyond the three-month mark, the text does not mention being able to post for free after that point.

Since spammers can pay the price or just establish several accounts and wait to be permitted to post, it is still being determined how the policy would eliminate spam accounts and bots. Meanwhile, the additional step, plus the fact that other social networks are free may deter regular users from utilizing X.

Considering that it costs NZD 1.75 in New Zealand, the price is about $1. Currently, only New Zealand and the Philippines have pay-for-access policies in place.
