WhatsApp Communities could make tracking events much easier

WhatsApp has been adding new features at a rapid pace in recent years. But that’s changing with the latest WhatsApp for Android beta (v2.24.3.20), which includes a helpful feature for Communities: automatically pinned events. This follows an October 2023 beta release that revealed clues of the events functionality coming to community group chats.

Because the procedure is automated, group members/admins will not have to pin a future event for everyone to see manually. According to WABetaInfo, when a community member creates an event, it is automatically pinned and appears at the top of the community information screen.

Even so, the fact that WhatsApp is working on automatically pinned events shows that events will play an essential role in communities, and they should soon be available to everyone. Pinning events at the top of the community information page makes sense, especially for providing quick and simple access to any forthcoming significant occasion shared among members.

Meanwhile, a recent WhatsApp beta version for Android, issued just before the weekend, added a new flag to alert users that their discussions are end-to-end encrypted.

According to WABetaInfo, the functionality was also introduced the iOS beta earlier this month. Thus, its inclusion in the Android beta is expected. This isn’t one of the significant feature updates to the chat app.
