Apple has removed the Apple Music SharePlay functionality being tested for the HomePod and Apple TV in the iOS 17.4 and tvOS 17.4 betas, implying that the feature may not be accessible when the updates arrive in March.
The first betas of tvOS 17.4 and iOS 17.4 provided SharePlay music controls for the HomePod and Apple TV. However, the functionality was removed in the second beta.
SharePlay is a function that allows users to watch TV, listen to music, utilize apps, and play games together via FaceTime, but Apple is expanding it. CarPlay now has SharePlay, which allows everyone in the car to contribute songs to a shared playlist.
The SharePlay function on the HomePod and Apple TV enabled users to create a QR code for friends and family to play songs on the device. The HomePod or Apple TV owner needed an Apple Music membership, whereas contributors only needed the Music app.
Apple may return the SharePlay feature to the HomePod and Apple TV with the next iOS 17.4 and tvOS 17.4 updates. However, SharePlay has yet to be included in the last two beta releases.
iOS 17.4 and tvOS 17.4 are due out in March.
