Google has announced various updates to the Google Maps platform, including an AI update. Thanks to Google AI, Google Maps now gives more detailed position information at a glance.
Maps display photo highlights and reviews summarizing what people enjoy about a location. AI can identify a restaurant’s food products, and Google Maps will also show cost, probable availability, and whether or not it accommodates dietary restrictions.
Google claims it will now be easier to find helpful recommendation lists from top sites and the Google Maps community in chosen cities across the United States and Canada. Additionally, listings labeled Trending, Top, and Gems showcase well-liked destinations to explore while on the road. This week, 40 cities have the functionality available; more will follow soon.
Along with the recommendation update, Google is also rolling out additional customization options for Maps users to make lists. Users of Google Maps can rank the order in which locations show in their lists and link material from social media platforms. Later this month, Google claims, the list changes will start to appear on iOS and Android devices.
Lastly, Google Maps users should anticipate a redesigned interface that features a simpler home screen with fewer tabs and new pin colors to facilitate place-finding on the map.
