Two former Apple employees who worked as cybersecurity researchers are forming their venture. DoubleYou is a firm that helps cybersecurity product designers safeguard iOS and Mac devices.
Patrick Wardle and Mikhail Sosonkin co-founded the startup. Wardle worked for the US National Security Agency from 2006 to 2008 before becoming a freelance security researcher focusing on macOS. Sosonkin, on the other hand, worked for Apple’s security team from 2019 to 2021.
They declare themselves “long-time pals” with deep security knowledge of Apple platforms. In an interview with TechCrunch, the researchers explained that the concept for DoubleYou arose after they saw a few security tools for macOS and iOS.
In contrast, evil hackers are increasingly targeting both platforms.
The DoubleYou team is not just another cybersecurity firm. They are innovators, employing the same tactics used by hackers to attack Apple systems as defense mechanisms. Their ongoing research includes developing a mechanism to analyze all macOS processes, detecting and stopping any untrusted code, and monitoring and blocking DNS traffic irregularities.
The startup’s creators also plan to develop tools for monitoring and blocking applications like cryptocurrency miners and ransomware. “We do not need any new technology to make this work. “We need to take the available tools and place them in the correct places,” Sosonkin added.
While the researchers have ambitious plans for the future, their immediate goal is clear-to protect Apple users from malicious software. For now, they are focused on remaining independent and ‘capturing some virus ‘.
