OpenAI is starting to introduce its new Advanced Voice Mode for ChatGPT Plus subscribers. This feature promises a more natural conversation experience with real-time responses and the ability to handle interruptions smoothly.
Unlike the current voice mode, which involves multiple steps to process speech, Advanced Voice Mode uses a single neural network, reducing latency and making interactions feel more fluid.
The new mode also includes the capability to sense and respond to emotions, humor, and sarcasm, making conversations more engaging. However, it will not mimic celebrity voices, a feature that caused controversy when the voice “Sky” was revealed to sound similar to Scarlett Johansson.
OpenAI has since removed this voice and implemented safeguards to prevent such issues in the future.
Advanced Voice Mode will be available to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users initially, with plans to roll it out to all subscribers this fall. Users selected for early access will receive instructions via email.
This update highlights OpenAI’s commitment to enhancing user experience by integrating advanced voice technology.
