Apple Drops Out of OpenAI Investment Talks

Apple has dropped out of talks to invest in OpenAI, the company behind the popular ChatGPT chatbot.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple was considering joining a $6.5 billion funding round but recently chose not to move forward with the investment. The reasons behind Apple’s decision are still unclear.

Other major tech companies like Microsoft and Nvidia are still involved in the funding. Microsoft, which has already invested $13 billion in OpenAI, is expected to add another $1 billion.

This news comes just a month after reports that Apple was considering investing in OpenAI. Despite dropping out, Apple is still planning to integrate ChatGPT into its voice assistant, Siri, in iOS 18 later this year.

This integration will allow iPhone, iPad, and Mac users to use ChatGPT without creating an account, while ChatGPT Plus subscribers can access extra features.

Apple’s decision might be related to OpenAI’s shift toward becoming a for-profit company, which could be a factor in their withdrawal.
