Apple has extended its reach in empowering customers to take control of their device repairs with the introduction of its self-service repair diagnostics tool in Europe. Initially launched in the U.S. in late 2023, this tool allows users to perform detailed diagnostics on their iPhones, Macs, and Studio Displays without the need for Apple or an authorized repair provider.
This expansion marks a significant step towards enhancing repair accessibility across the continent. Customers in 32 European countries, including major markets like the UK, Germany, France, and the Netherlands, can now initiate diagnostics sessions directly from their devices. The tool evaluates various aspects such as display functionality, camera performance, and software integration, providing insights into any potential issues and suggesting necessary repairs.
To utilize the diagnostics tool, users simply need a second Apple device running iOS 17 or later or macOS Sonoma 14.1 or later. By accessing the tool’s web interface from this second device, they can seamlessly transition their device into Diagnostics Mode and follow intuitive on-screen instructions.
Apple’s decision to expand this service globally reflects a broader commitment to sustainability and consumer empowerment. By enabling more users to conduct their own repairs using genuine Apple parts and tools, the company aims to prolong product lifespans and reduce electronic waste.
Looking ahead, Apple plans to introduce this self-service repair capability to Canada in 2025, further broadening its global repair initiative. As regulations and consumer demands increasingly favor right-to-repair options, Apple continues to lead in providing accessible, user-friendly solutions for maintaining and repairing its products.
