Google Assistant, once seen as outdated, is getting a significant boost thanks to Google’s latest AI model, Gemini.
Contrary to earlier speculation, Gemini isn’t replacing Assistant but rather enhancing it, especially in the realm of smart home management.
With Gemini’s integration, Google Assistant will offer new capabilities for managing smart home devices.
This includes improved voice recognition and the ability to understand more natural language commands.
Users can now interact with their devices more fluidly, ask follow-up questions, and receive more accurate responses.
Additionally, Gemini is transforming how Nest Cameras function. The cameras will now provide detailed descriptions of events, such as noting when your dog is digging in the garden.
This advanced context is useful for more precise searches within the Google Home app and smarter home automations.
A new “Help me create” feature in the Google Home app will simplify setting up automations. You can describe what you want to happen, and the app will generate the necessary routines.
For example, saying “Help the kids remember to put their bikes away” can automatically create a task to turn on the garage light and broadcast a reminder.
These updates will roll out to Nest Aware subscribers in Public Preview later this year, with a broader release to follow.
Google’s push to revamp its smart home technology aims to make Assistant more intuitive and responsive, marking a new era for home automation.
