Apple Executive Dan Riccio Reportedly ‘Nearing Retirement’ Following Vision Pro Launch

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s former hardware engineering chief Dan Riccio has informed colleagues that he is “nearing retirement” after more than 25 years with the business.

Apple described Riccio as such when it announced the transfer in 2021:

Riccio has played a vital role in the design, development, and engineering of nearly every Apple product. From the first generation iMac to the more recent 5G iPhone series, M1-based Macs, and AirPods Max, Riccio created the Hardware Engineering teams and scaled Apple’s ability to innovate across several new product lines with high-quality standards.

This is what Riccio said in the news release:

Working at Apple has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create the world’s top products alongside some of the most talented people you could imagine. After 23 years of directing our Product Design or Hardware Engineering teams, culminating in our most ambitious product year to date, it is time for a change. Next, I look forward to doing what I love most at Apple: spending all my time and attention on developing something new and great that I am ecstatic about.

Riccio’s retirement date has yet to be set, and Gurman has stated that particular details of his intended departure are still being worked out.
