The AirPlay feature for TVs in hotel rooms has been postponed until next year, according to an update from Apple to the iOS 17 page on its website today.
Originally stated to be “coming later this year,” Apple has since announced that the feature will be “coming in an update in 2024.” Although Apple did not give a more precise release date, the part should be available in the first half of 2019 with the iOS 17 update.
With this feature’s help, iPhone owners can wirelessly stream music, videos, and photos from their iPhone to the TV by scanning a QR code on the TV in their hotel room to create an AirPlay connection. Some hotel TVs already have a similar Google feature that lets visitors use Chromecast to stream media from their smartphones.
In June, Apple declared that IHG Hotels & Resorts, the parent company of Holiday Inns, would be among the first hotel companies to implement the feature. Meanwhile, LG said it would be among the first TV manufacturers to support the feature for hotel rooms.
