Apple May Discontinue EarPods After 14 Years: What to Know

Apple’s EarPods, a familiar accessory for iPhone users, might soon be discontinued. Introduced in 2012, EarPods were the standard wired earphones that came with iPhones and iPods.

They replaced the older circular earbuds and initially featured a 3.5mm headphone jack.

When Apple removed the headphone jack with the iPhone 7, they introduced EarPods with a Lightning connector. Later, with the shift to USB-C on the iPhone 15, a new version of EarPods was released with a USB-C connector.

Recent reports from MacRumors suggest that major retailer Target has listed all EarPods variants (Lightning, 3.5mm, and USB-C) as “Non-Carry Forward,” indicating they might soon be phased out.

This news comes just ahead of Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” iPhone 16 event, raising speculation about an imminent discontinuation.

If true, this move could disappoint many fans who appreciate the EarPods for their affordability and quality.
