Honda and Acura are expanding their CarPlay focus by adding smart garage door opener capability to their respective CarPlay apps.
CarPlay now works with HomeKit to provide garage door information and control options. This new Honda and Acura feature brings non-HomeKit-compatible smart garage doors to CarPlay.
Honda is collaborating with Chamberlain Group’s myQ Connected Garage solution to do this. While there are specialized HomeKit garage door accessories on the market, Autoblog notes that the integration with MyQ means that many consumers will use this new function purchasing no additional gear.
The garage door features are controlled through the CarPlay apps for HondaLink and AcuraLink, which are both accessible in the App Store. The most notable feature is the ability to set up a geofence that would intelligently offer you a notification via CarPlay to open or close your garage door based on your present position.
You can also manually open or close your garage door using the HondaLink or AcuraLink app via CarPlay. To learn more and set up the new CarPlay features, download the most recent versions of the HondaLink and AcuraLink applications from the App Store.
