WhatsApp has started rolling out its new Events feature, originally exclusive to Communities, to regular group chats. This expansion, confirmed in the latest beta version 2.24.14.9 for Android, allows users to create and manage events directly within their group chats using a new “Event” icon accessible through the paperclip menu.
With this feature, event creators can specify details such as event names, dates, locations, and descriptions. Once created, group members can view the event details and respond to invitations. Notably, only the creator retains the ability to modify event specifics, ensuring streamlined management.
WhatsApp emphasizes that all group events are protected by end-to-end encryption, prioritizing user privacy and security throughout the event planning and attendance process.
While WhatsApp has not disclosed a specific global rollout timeline, interested users can access this functionality by joining the beta program via the Google Play Store. This update complements recent enhancements to WhatsApp, including expanded group video call limits and new AI-powered chat features aimed at enhancing user engagement and experience across its platform.
For WhatsApp users eager to leverage these new capabilities, participating in the beta program offers early access to explore and utilize the Events feature ahead of its full release.
