WhatsApp to Introduce Group Chat Labels for Better Organization

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that allows users to assign labels to themselves in group chats. This feature was recently discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta version for Android and is currently available to beta testers.

With this update, users can set a unique label for themselves in each group they are a part of. These labels will be visible to all current and future group members but will not appear outside that specific chat. WhatsApp also provides suggested labels like “Jordan’s parent,” “coach,” or “chairperson,” but users are free to create their own.

Interestingly, users may also be able to assign labels to other group members, making it easier to identify roles within a chat. Once set, the label remains unchanged unless manually modified, even after reinstalling WhatsApp.

This feature is designed to make group conversations more structured and organized. However, since it is still in the beta phase, there is no official release date for the public rollout. WhatsApp usually releases updates gradually, so it may take weeks or even months to reach all users.

For now, those in the beta program can test the feature and provide feedback before its wider launch.
