Some YouTube Music for iOS users are currently experiencing an issue where the app opens to a blank screen on specific Google Accounts and cannot play songs.
Those affected by the black screen glitch only see the app bar, which includes YouTube Music’s logo, search, profile avatar, and the bottom bar.
The inability to browse or start playback began earlier today.
Users have reported success switching accounts and listening to commercials. However, their YouTube Premium membership and library are only available to the afflicted.
So far, the reports are isolated to the iOS client, with the Android app still functioning correctly.
This is a server-side issue, given that the most recent app update (version 6.48.3) arrived over the weekend. Uninstalling and reinstalling YouTube Music does not solve the problem. Many people have this difficulty, but not everyone; the gadgets we tested worked properly.
Speaking of the iPhone app, some users have noticed that the next and previous keys have been replaced by 30-second forward and 10-second rewind keys, which are suitable for podcasts but not songs.
This is shown in CarPlay and the system-level Now Playing controls on the lock screen. This is the first time we have encountered this problem on our devices.
